The research group of professor Eva Brems of The Human Rights Centre of Ghent University is organising a conference at the at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg, France, on 3 and 4 February 2011. It is entitled ‘Mainstreaming Diversity: Rewriting Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights’. The conference will address the way in which the European Court of Human Rights addresses diversity issues. More information, including the programme, can be found on the conference website. The conference will be organized along the lines of six panels, respectively dealing with gender, cultural minorities, religious minorities, children, disability and sexual orientation. In each panel, three scholars will propose a new draft of some crucial passages in a judgment of the European Court of Human Rights, thus translating their theoretical views on the accommodation of diversity into judicial language.
Judges of the European Court of Human Rights and other practitioners will be asked to comment on the proposals. With this concept, the conference aims to bridge the gap between academic analysis and judicial practice.
