Call for Participants – Writing and Publishing in the Law of the ECHR and Other International Human Rights Systems: A Workshop for Early Career Researchers

The Academy for European Human Rights Protection at the University of Cologne and the University of Zurich are pleased to announce an open call for participants for their upcoming joint workshop, “Writing and Publishing in the Law of the ECHR and Other International Human Rights Systems: A Workshop for Early Career Researchers”.

In recent years, human rights law and its institutions have operated in an increasingly complex environment, shaped by populist challenges to human rights, political responses to migration, ongoing armed conflicts, and the growing impacts of climate change.

Against this backdrop, the workshop brings together Early Career Researchers, senior academics, editors, and practitioners to discuss the challenges and opportunities involved in researching, writing, and publishing academic work in the field of international human rights protection.

Following two previous workshops in 2024 and 2025, the event aims once again to provide a forum for academic exchange and to expand the network of scholars working in this field.

Early Career Researchers attending the workshop in person will also have the opportunity to present their ongoing research in small-group sessions and discuss their work with experienced academics. These sessions will provide a space for individualised feedback and in-depth academic exchange.

Date: 11–12 February 2027
Location: Academy for European Human Rights Protection, University of Cologne
Format: Hybrid (in person and online)

The call for participants is open until 9 November 2026. Applications should be submitted by email to [email protected].

Further information on the workshop, the application process, and the submission requirements can be found in the Call for Participants here. Additional information can be found here.

We very much look forward to receiving your applications and welcoming you to the workshop!
